DESCRIPTION
Full description WATERPORTS aims to support environmental managers of Port Authorities in their day-to-day coastal water quality environmental monitoring tasks and decision making for mitigating their impact on climate change.
In detail, WATERPORTS will provide insights and forecast on water quality parameters such as: concentration of chlorophyll, sea water turbidity and concentration of suspended matter in sea water (considered as essential marine parameters according to the marine Strategic Framework Directive and Water Framework Directive), up to 2 km away from port coast, which will allow for better decision making, as well as contributing to a Common European Green Deal data.
WATERPORTS will make use of two DIHs from EUHubs4Data: Cybersecurity Innovation Hub and The Data Cycle Hub (from ITI) and Geospatial datasets extracted from Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS).

Development of an innovative market solution based on AI and EO (high resolution satellite data) for Port Authorities to help them to water quality assessment and decision making for climate change mitigation
- Advanced Big Data system architecture definition to automatically daily water quality parameters retrieve, store, process, and visualization in an easy-to use WebApp through maps and graphs.
- Generation of an AI Model for forecasting (24-48 and 72 hours) the concentration of three main water quality parameters with a spatial resolution of 100x100m, improving the current 4x4 km spatial resolution of the forecasted products offered by CMEMS.
WATERPORTS will provide insights and forecast on water quality parameters, considered as essential marine parameters according to the marine Strategic Framework Directive and Water Framework Directive, such as: concentration of chlorophyll, sea water turbidity and concentration of suspended matter in sea water up to 2 km away from port coast, which will allow Port Authorities for better decision making, as well as contributing to a Common European Green Deal data.
- First SaaS for Port Authorities providing insights and forecast on the main water quality parameters at coastal waters by using EO and the most advanced AI techniques.
- Better position into the Port market providing the Port market an innovative service as the “Posidonia WaterPorts” for better decision making to mitigate their impact on the environment.
- Integration of WATERPORTS into the commercial existing platform. Port Management System (PMS), ©Posidonia Suite.
